I’ve been thinking on what to write in this past for the past week, which is how most of my written work comes to fruition. It seems I need to mull things over and work out how I’d like to structure my writing – whether that is a blog post like this, an article for a newspaper or magazine or copywriting for a client – before I actually put words to page. It works for me anyway.
So, this time last week I was doing what I do well – talking. When I was invited to the Blogger’s Brunch at St Kilda I jumped at the opportunity because I love catching up with friends I usually only see online and making new connections. These Kids Business events are also my favoured way to speak, and build relationships with, brands because I actually get to talk with someone rather than just being handed a product sample and herded on my way. I like finding out what the brands are looking for when connecting with bloggers, and I hope they feel the same when I share my story about Business & Baby on Board (the book and blog).
Here what I found out from some of the brands I spoke with:
Breville’s new food processor, aptly named ‘The Boss’ makes pretty light work of nuts, frozen fruit and other foods to create yummy nut butters, smoothies and dips.
Jalna yoghurt (which I already love), has an A2 protein product which would be even more suitable for me since I’m lactose intolerant (I need to find supermarkets that stock it in Launceston now).
Brauer (a brand I’ve used since the boys were tiny), has made getting vitamins into kids easier with its new Vitashake. I tried the chocolate flavour and was pleasantly surprised (I expected it to taste like a multivitamin) and both boys loved the chocolate and strawberry flavours I brought home.
Crayola does so much more than crayons and markers! I had no idea the extensive product range and can’t wait to see the Marker Maker sets in stores here.
Steggles Turkey Shortcuts are so much tastier than I expected. The turkey mince kofta with beetroot dip was especially yummy!
Dyson’s new wall mounted vacuum will make life much easier (yes I’m one of those who pulls the cord out trying to stretch to vacuum just one more room). Hopefully we’ll be trialling one of these new Digital Slim DC59 machines soon.
Bob Jane T-Marts have always been helpful when I’ve needed new tyres, but I didn’t know I could actually get my tyre pressure checked there too (something very relevant to me right now as both tyre pressure points at two local service stations were faulty when I last tried to check my tyres).
Last week’s event had three inspiring speakers from Look Good Feel Better, Healthy Parent Project and Body Image Movement. I was particularly interested to hear from Taryn Brumfitt whose ‘before and after’ photos posted on Facebook went viral around the world because she dared say she was happier with her gorgeous curvy body now rather than the carefully sculpted one she possessed previously. Taryn is planning a crowdfunding campaign to produce her documentary, Embrace, which covers her worldwide body image movement and I can’t think of a better project!
Thanks again for the invitation to come along and wear my blogger hat for the day, Christie and the team at Kids Business. Love your work!
