Inspiration in Magic Lessons

September 8, 2016 By Johanna Baker-Dowdell

failure-has-no-meaningYou know that feeling you get when everybody is talking about something really special, but you just can’t see what it is they are fascinated by? That was me with Elizabeth Gilbert.

I say was because I’ve now joined the LG fan base, however it was a long time coming. Like many women (and some men) I read Eat Pray Love. Unlike many women I wasn’t so completely consumed by the book that I wanted to take off around the world and find myself. I found the book really heavy going and found Elizabeth to be so self absorbed that I couldn’t connect with her.

But I’ve since read Elizabeth’s articles and listened to her podcast Magic Lessons and I’ve had to rethink my initial opinion. I can see now where I can connect with her and I’m enjoying discovering all the things I missed while I was avoiding the Liz Gilbert bandwagon.

While cooking and cleaning today I listened to the Magic Lessons episode where Liz and Brene Brown talk about creativity. This is definitely my thing and I was hanging off every word, pausing the podcast to take notes and mulling over the messages.

I was inspired to create some graphic quotes using some of my favourite tools: Canva and Unsplash. Which is your favourite?
