The creative writing project I’ve been involved with over the past four months, The Write Road, drew to a close last week.
I can’t tell you how proud I felt as I watched the 17 grade 5 and 6 students I had mentored during these months pore over the pages of the anthology their work was published in, along with the work of 30 others from two other Launceston primary schools. Their writing was presented at a Writer’s Cafe, where they could share their creative pieces with their parents and the new-found friends some would be attending high school with next year.
And, to make the event even more special, author Lian Tanner was the guest of honour, speaking about what writers need. Lian blogged what she shared with us, but here’s my summary.
Writers need to:
- Daydream
- Take risks
- Live life deeply and passionately
- Have adventures
Because they are part of a great and honourable tradition of creative people who started off as children who loved stories.
I couldn’t agree more!
