Engorged Cataract Gorge

No matter how much mankind thinks it runs the planet, Mother Nature can always step in to show who’s really boss. This point was brought home to me yesterday when watching, listening and just experiencing the sheer force of the flood at Launceston’s Cataract Gorge.

Where these people are standing is normally a park and a swimming pool. You would have no idea if looking now, but I walked across this grass and around to the other side of the gorge in summer.

Watch the video and look at the images below to see the speed of the water flowing through these incredible rock formations. It was so amazing to just stand on the bridge above the water and listen to the roar.

And the local birdlife enjoyed the scenes too.
