Strawberry Fields Forever

February 21, 2013 By webadmin

Last weekend we picked 4kg of strawberries at the Hillwood Berry Farm, which is only 10 minutes drive along the East Tamar Highway from us.

As most of you would know, strawberries are my favourite fruit so I was in heaven, but the boys also had a great time picking the berries too and we had fun making jam, strawberry sorbet and strawberry and white chocolate muffins, leaving just enough for lots of fresh bowls of berries.

On the way home we stopped off at Woodmere cherry farm, thinking we’d pick up a bag of summer fruit. Instead, Harvey came out with a 5kg box! They were $15 so he couldn’t resist.

Needless to say that was too many to eat in one go so I baked two cherry pies and three cherry and cheese strudels and Harvey made cherries in port and cherry icecream. The freeer is pretty well stocked now. There were some cherries left to eat fresh though and they were delicious!

And here’s the results.
